The Importance of Family Support – August 2024
A good family is a source of emotional support and unconditional love. Adults who received emotional support from their family experience fewer depressive symptoms, according to a 2004 study published in the American Psychological Association’s “Psychology and Aging” journal. Springbrook employees provide our tenants and residents with quality care and a comfortable home, in a community that is friendly, safe, clean, healthy, and FUN.
Families shape an individual’s identity and belonging. As social creatures, belonging to a group is important for our self-concept. Springbrook strives to provide a sense of social identity, a sense of self, and a feeling that we belong.
SpringBrook works hard to provide positive social relationships among tenants and residents through events such as music performances, happy hours, movie nights, and monthly birthday parties. We provide an environment that stimulates cognitive skills, such as problem-solving and critical thinking through our group activities. Residents and tenants are encouraged to participate in a variety of group activities including crossword puzzle solving, trivia games and board games.
But none of this can replace the involvement of family. We need our family for varied reasons at various stages of our lives. Adults need a family’s emotional connection to feel loved and belong. Seniors need a family to have a sense of purpose in life. We know it can be difficult to watch a loved one age, and we want to support you on your journey.
Our healthcare team strives to provide the level of communication that each family wants. Some families want very frequent updates; others only want to know when there are major issues. Our managers in dietary, life enrichment, and maintenance are readily available to help address family concerns. Upon move-in, we provide family members with a list that contains the phone and email contact information for all facility managers. In fact, unlike some facilities, you can actually find this information directly on our website.
By being there for our residents, tenants, and their families, when they need us, we strive to provide the best level of care possible a true sense of home and community here at Springbrook of Onalaska.
